Directly situated in Hasselt harbor in the Belgian region of Flanders lies a spectacular residential complex. It is called “Zuidzicht”, in English “Southview”. Designed by Brussels-based architects BURO II & ARCHI+I, it is inspired by the splendid harbors and bays of Barcelona. Its form and façade play with light and water, as well as the Belgian climate and its surroundings, featuring a shape full of curves so fluid that it virtually reshapes the sea itself.

This curvy design, combined with the climatic circumstances of strong winds and an exceedingly humid climate, posed several challenges for the construction of the exterior ceilings. But Knauf Ceiling Solutions with AQUAPANEL® Technology Inside were up to the task. Thanks to the easy handling and low weight of the cement boards, they were easily adapted to the wave-like design of the terraces. Since they are solely composed of inorganic materials, they are 100% water-resistant and do not soften or swell, even when exposed to driving rain. This allowed the construction of an exclusive building which features magnificent views from all of its balconies and terraces – to the south as well as all other directions.
